Subject:THIS IS A "CLINT LAWSON, AWESOME DRUMMER" PETITION
Security:Public

I don't know why, I'm doing it. But I feel it needs to be done. With no motive in mind.. Just for fact.

I've been connected to this "music community" here in Ohio, for almost 10 tens now. Starting with Kyle Epperson and Alex Slamka in the late fall of 1997 when I moved here. Since that time, I have come across many drummers. None of them to be overlooked, by any means. (i use engilsh) But, from one drummer to the next... this drummer will always amaze me - Clint Lawson. He is music. He plays music to feel music. Not just to be a musician.

This is a petition. No longer an awesome drummer petition. But all around musician petition. Who here, agrees with me? I just want it to be out there - to be known in our distant connector of peers - this thing you call, livejournal.

No motive. Just one musician stating his case. or opinion. or whatever you call it.. i should've paid more attention in school.

Spread the word.

Hey all. We're going to start recording an album for All Their Eyes this week. After the basic tracks are done, I'd like to put a lot of other things in some of the songs--keys, strings, horns, backup and gang vocals, alternate percussion, and even spoken bits.

There are a couple songs where we'll need a bunch of people doing simple background singing. There's also an instrumental song which will have a collage of various spoken lines in the background. If your talented, sexy ass would like to be part of the recording process, totally let me know. Anything you want to do... extra guitar, vocals, weird noises, banging on drums and tambourines, sousaphone, whatever. This is the first time I've been involved in a full-length recording, and I'd like to have as many people from the community involved as possible.

There will be a lot of different styles/moods in the songs to fit different musical tastes. Check out some crappy demos of a few songs at the All Their Eyes myspace. Hell, listen to them a lot, even if you don't want to participate... I want to get to 10,000 plays before the new songs go up so Capitol Records will sign us. Wooo!

Subject:A Call To Arms!
Security:Public

(This has been cross posted, which I have recently learned is abbreviated as 'xposted'. So this is xposted, which does not mean that it was straight-edge posted. Make a note.)

As anyone who has talked to me in the past two weeks knows, the Among Thieves album is almost done. Rough mixes are done, the final mixing (and figuring out what to do with it) is all that is left.

For anyone that hasn't heard anything yet, or is curious, three of the roughly mixed songs are on my MySpace account. Found here:
http://myspace.com/alexslamka
(AmongThieves was already taken)

So with that in mind, the idea of trying to get shows comes up. Getting shows requires a band. The previous band lineup was:

Me: Drunk Guitar
Josh O: Drums
Stacey: Violin
Steve Lacey: B-Bass
Amy: Confused Piano

But as everyone knows Stacey and Amy have fled the scene for bigger cities.

So this is a call to arms! The lineup of me, Josh, and Steve is all that is left. This is more than alright with me, because I like small bands, butbutbut, there is nothing I would like more than to have an eight or more person carnival-band on stage all playing different possibly bizzare instruments. So a call to arms! to you. Would you like to participate? If so let me know, and let me know what you would like to play. If it seems like it has a chance of fitting, then you're hired. We can hopefully work something out and all have fun.

But if not, it's all gravy baby. Listen to the songs and let me know what you think anyways.

Anybody who's anybody knows what time it almost is. Floyd fuckin fest. It's this Saturday, it starts at five pm, it's in the Franklin/Middletown area, and there will be live goats.

All are invited. Festivities go to whenever they're done.

Music:

Orange Lazarus-- first show since they've started work in earnest on their debut album.

Among Thieves-- celebrate the completion of their first album.

Angry Ryan and the Nosebreakers-- first show since they all broke their own noses. Mutual destruction assured.

All Their Eyes-- celebrating the spirit of free market capitalism with t-shirts, motherfuckers!

Yale class of '03 reunion-- original lineup... they even smell the same as they did back then (bad.)

Invisible Strings-- you won't be able to see them, but they'll be there.

Fazeshifter-- they're pissed they have to keep reminding your dumbass why you liked grunge/punk in the first place.

Also featuring some other bands I forgot, some acoustic performances I'm sure, probably some sort of open jam, food, FOOD, drink, a bonfire (BONFIRE? It's going to be hot as fuck out. That's how crazy we roll, though. Apparently.) and an all around friendly, good times atmosphere refreshingly devoid of nakedness. At least early in the evening. After nine all bets are off.

Oh yeah. We won't be having live goats. That was a lie. Unless you bring some.

Maybe we could take a Loft Co. group photo? We'd like to get everyone who has been involved in any way in a picture for something we'll be working on in the near future.

Does anyone know anything concrete and 'for sure' like for Stevestock? No one I talk to knows anything positive. Like what day is it, what bands are playing, and can Nikki's band from Pittsburg play?

Bass Player Wanted!

Low-maintenance-no-practice-often-acoustic band is seeking a willing bass player. The position pays in high fives. We play the nastiest, cruchiest, in-your-face-Metallica-eat-your-heart-out songs, and our influences are Nirvana, Fugazi, Celine Dion, Wu-Tang Clan, ICP, Staind, and J.D. Sallinger. We sound just like Dillenger Escape Plan, only slow and acoustic and less yelling. Sort of like if Dillenger Escape Plan just found a bag full of puppies. Only serious players should respond. Labels are interested in us. The big ones. Anyone interested reply.

But seriously, does anyone want to play bass? I'll just go over the songs with you a few times and we won't practice any. It won't be a big deal or a hassle to your life. The parts are already wrote, and a little difficult, but really not bad at all, but you can make up your own parts too if you want, or whatever. Anyone interested?

This is going to be huge fun.

Directions: Take Rt. 73 to Oxford. Make a left where 73 dead ends on the campus of Miami University. Proceed down South Patterson and take the second left you come to. Presser is a large, gray stone building. You can see it from the road.

Most of you will probably see this twice, cutting your excuses for not going by exactly one half due to some crazy math I don't even understand. In other words, you should go.

So, Scott Kennedy and I are planning a series of shows on the Miami U Oxford campus taking place sometime in April. We're going for a diverse lineup and free or very cheap admission to draw as many people as possible. We're doing this through a student group, so we should be able to get funding and help for fliers/other promotional efforts, plus a good possibility of compensation for the bands.

If anyone is interested in helping with this and subsequently playing one of the shows, definitely get in touch with me. Yale will more than likely be playing, and I think we're going to get a spot for Orange Lazarus. We're going to try to get a couple cool regional bands in too... we'll see what happens. Point being, as of today, the lineup is still wide open for a number of bands.

We're meeting tomorrow in King Library at 5 PM to start planning. If you're interested, show up or call me and I'll bring you with me.

Come see these!

Delhi Drive @Sorg Opera House, Jan. 14th 8pm. $8, tickets available at Loft Co. Records. With ten other area bands. Come soak up some Delhi and errr... headbang(?) to the metal bands. Or something. Cookies and juice at the merch table, as well as fine releases from Loft/Trenton bands.

Yale @Kenyon College, Jan. 16th 8pm. Free. With Jet Kid Committee (great Dayton band) and Criteria (Saddle Creek, ex Cursive/White Octave). There's still a spot or two open on the caravan up, so ride with us.

Angry Ryan and the Nosebreakers @Flora House Jan. 21st 8pm. Probably a few bucks, definitely worth it. With Nixon (Louisville Kentucky punk rock and roll).
